Riga, the largest city in the Baltics, blends eras. The cobbled lane Jauniela, in the heart of the Old Town, played Baker Street in the celebrated series « The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson » (1979-1986) by Igor Maslennikov, regarded as one of the most faithful adaptations of Conan Doyle; the house at 20 Jauniela stood in for the detective's lodgings.
✨Beside St Peter's Church, a 1990 sculpture shows the Town Musicians of Bremen peering through an « Iron Curtain », a nod to the freedom regained at the end of the Soviet era. Legend says you should rub the donkey's nose to make a wish, which has left it polished and gleaming.
