No. The AEY eSIM is a secondary SIM — your main number stays active on your primary SIM. You can still receive calls and texts (watch out for roaming fees on your main number).

Installing the QR code requires a connection (airport WiFi, hotel, etc.). Once activated, the eSIM works normally on the local mobile network. Tip: activate it before you leave!
