The Nadodrze district, with its early-20th-century façades frozen in time, was chosen by Steven Spielberg to stand in for Cold War East Berlin in « Bridge of Spies » (2015). Kurkowa, Ptasia and Mennicza streets were dressed as 1950s Berlin for the shoot.
The hundreds of little bronze dwarfs (krasnale) scattered across the city are no tourist gimmick: they descend from the Orange Alternative, a peaceful and absurdist resistance movement against communism in the 1980s.
